Oyster Workshop

It’s peak oyster season – the best time to indulge your love for these delicious bivalves! We recently welcomed Olympia Oyster Bar to Elder Hall for a deep dive into picking, shucking and eating oysters. They brought along northwest favorite Hama Hama Oysters. If you’ve eaten a platter of icy oysters in Portland, you’ve most likely had a taste of Hama Hama’s renowned varieties.

The Washington-based, family-run shellfish farm has been in operation for five generations in the Olympic Peninsula. And our friends at Olympia Oyster Bar know how to prepare a great tasting oyster. With that kind of knowledge to share, we were thrilled to learn from the best about terroir and flavor profiles of Pacific Northwest oysters. Then we got an all-important lesson in shucking these lovelies like a pro. Using simple ingredients to create the perfect complement to the briny goodness of the oysters, we got to enjoy the fruits of our labor paired with wine selections to match.
